Programs Offered

​

Skills For Learning: This program is in a group setting with 10 sessions, each session being 2 hours long. Skills for Learning is a program to help learners build confidence, advocate for themselves, and engage in learning. Some topics covered in the program are but not limited to; Time Management, Goal Planning, Budgeting, Communication Skills, Learning Strategies & more! Fee`s may apply. 


Learner Support Services: By appointment base only. Learner`s may book an appointment with an onsite Literacy Mentor who can provide one on one support around the following; information on programs for upgrading or post-secondary, information on community resources & how to access and referrals to such programs, assistance with forms/applications, or access/support with basic technology. 


Reading/Writing/Document Use: This program is in a group setting with 8 sessions, the goal of this program is to help adults identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, and use printed materials. Developing reading and writing skills up to and including pre-GED level. Including learning in material such as; written sentences, paragraphs, graph charts/tables, arranging words/numbers/symbols on paper or a computer screen. Not intended as an English as a Second Language opportunity. Fee`s may apply. 
 

Family Literacy Programming

We offer multiple family literacy programs


Books For Babies - 6 week group program based on literacy development in infants 0-12 months of age. In this program you will find support from parents in the community, learn about resources and agencies in the city to help based on your need, gain knowledge on appropriate books/safety when choosing books for infants, and ways to expand your child`s language. Fee`s may apply. 
 

Reading With Our Children - 6 week group program based on building caregivers’ literacy skills while expanding ideas for book sharing activities through exploring a different children`s book each week. In this program you will gain confidence through literacy support, learn about other supports in the city, and scheduled social time to connect with other families. Fee`s may apply. 


Literacy & Parenting Skills - 8 week group based program that focuses on parenting skills. Participants choose which topics they would like to learn more about. Topic`s can include but not limited to; ages & stages, building self esteem, positive discipline, family dynamics/routine. Fee`s may apply. Can be offered in Newcomer or Indigenous programming as well. 


Busy Bags Workshop- This workshop is for caregivers` in the community to learn/share and make different engaging activities for their children to use when on-the-go. These small simple activities are often made from materials that can recycled or found around the home. This workshop gives caregivers` the opportunity to connect with others and craft an activity for their children.  Fee`s may apply.
