Reforming the Family Justice System
Supports for families experiencing divorce and separation
Over the past decade, Alberta’s Re-imagining the Family Justice System (RFJS) has been working to re- imagine family justice, and has been engaging with collaborators from across many sectors in the Grande Prairie community since March 2020.

The RFJS is seeking to shift the focus in family justice matters away from “fighting it out in court” (a win/lose perspective on family restructuring, which relies heavily on adversarial legal responses and courts), to increasing the community’s capacity to support families who are restructuring.
This support will equip families with the skills required to communicate well, make decisions with the well-being of their children at the forefront, and will assist families with the social, relationship, parenting, financial and health issues that arise in family matters.
The heart of the RFJS is summed up as “helping families thrive”, supporting them to be in the seat of decision-making in keeping with the uniqueness and individual needs of each family.

It’s all about the children.
